I have always admired Sticks furniture. This is my attempt to do something similar. I made this tray with plywood and carved the pictures with a dremmel and a wood burning tool. Then I painted it with acrylics.
It was my gift for the dirty santa game at our Bunco Christmas Party this year.

For Luz....Merry Christmas!

We had fun decorating Passages with help from new friends and neighbors. Thanks everyone!!
Checking off my Christmas order list.....Snoopy and Woodstock yard art. Most of my orders are gifts this year so I won't be able to post photos of those until after Christmas. In the mean time, I've been setting up my own yard and our neighborhood entrance for the holidays with a few improvements from last year.

Mermaid

The large mermaid was purchased to decorate a little girl's room.
Photos were glued with Mod Podge onto wood, then scroll saw cut into mermaids and painted. Real sand, glitter and a seashell were used as embellishments.

The planter box was custom made with a blue glass filled starfish on the front. The sign and seahorses will be for sale at the next craft fair.

Seaweed

I used a scroll saw to cut the birch plywood seaweed and glued it to a piece of pine. After sanding, it was painted and applied with an encaustic wax. I had fun making this piece for myself. It was the first time using encaustic wax. What a fun medium to work with! I have ideas for more art like this.

These plate & napkin holders were custom ordered gifts. The fabric samples were painted on the boxes 1st to match the fabrics used at the river cabins. The skis were glued on, but the rest was painted with acrylics and sealed with Polycrylic by Minwax.

Beach Cottage Blue

Living near the beach is certainly an inspiration for the blue decor around my house. Shown here is a tissue box, a small shelf, box for my dining table and a guest box filled with goodies for my sister's visit. Each of these pieces were made using recycled wood, painted with acrylics and have a wax finish. The furniture wax by Minwax is something new I am trying and really like. I was able to mix the wax with my paints for an antique look.

Bluebirds moved in Already!

I think the stain went on only an hour before the Bluebirds checked it out and moved in! Here is Mama working on the nest. How cute!

Update on project

This is almost done. Help.....any ideas for the right side?

Bird Condo

This birdhouse condo is going on a 4x4 post and will get a dark stain and perhaps roses planted around the post. I will add new photos of it when it is installed. This was challenging to make without a pattern, but so much fun!

This box was made for our Hammock Bay Bunco Group 2011

mural 2007

I did this mural for a home in 2007. It has been a few years since I have painted any large murals. I use this blog as my online portfolio so I thought I'd share some my older artwork too.

How lucky I am to have a friend who would go to all the trouble of helping tear down an old barn in Kentucky and hall it all the way here just so I could make birdhouses and such!! The wood is just beautiful. Thank you Lillard!
I thought my son could use some "useful" art to decorate the blank walls of his room, so this is my attempt at a Steampunk Hat Rack. I did a collage using old photos, paint, and trinkets from my favorite junk/hardware store.
